What we build to

We aim at WCAG 2.1 Level AA. Every colour pairing in the design system was measured rather than guessed, and the measured ratio is recorded beside the colour in the source.

Specific decisions

11.2.01 Body text is set at 17px, above the usual 16px default.
11.2.02 Body text on white measures 17.4:1. Secondary text measures 6.9:1.
11.2.03 Focus rings are visible on every interactive element and are never removed.
11.2.04 The menu opens and closes from the keyboard; Escape closes it.
11.2.05 Animation and smooth scrolling are switched off under prefers-reduced-motion.
11.2.06 Colour is never the only signal. Active items also carry a rule and a number.
11.2.07 Every page has one h1 and a skip link to the main content.
